This paper was presented
as a short talk at the Symposium of the Classical Antiquity Magister of
the Sorbonne (Paris IV) in March 1999. It discusses shortly the idea of
considering Buddha as a "classical" philosopher. It is 6 pages long plus
an interesting set of images of the Buddha in Gandharan art.
